I call my wedding-planning blog Bicoastal Bride because that’s exactly what I was! Following our engagement, my husband, Stephen, and I spent 14 months planning a June 2010 wedding in my hometown of Thousand Oaks, California, while juggling busy lives and careers in Washington, DC. Stressful? Sometimes. But by working together, staying organized, and relying on the amazing help of family and friends, we set out to create a fabulous day that would be fun and memorable for everyone.
Bicoastal Bride’s Kaptur of her wedding:
The wedding’s grape, white, silver and lavender color scheme reflected our love of California’s lush wineries, which we also tied in by using wine corks as escort-card holders, California postcards as table names, wine bottles as décor and a vineyard-themed design for the cake. As fun personal touches, our wedding also included a Mexican buffet, signature sangria and crossword puzzle challenge game, while my lace Alfred Angelo gown added a romantic touch and just the right pop of color to match my bridesmaids. Our final dance of the night was to Elvis’ “Blue Hawaii,” as our friends wrapped leis around our necks and sent us off on our amazing Hawaiian honeymoon cruise!
