Kaptur your Wedding with Beyoncé’s “Love on Top”

There is lots of excitement in the Kaptur office right now! We have been working with Beyoncé, Vera Wang and WeddingWire so you can create your own wedding slideshow using all of your guests’ photos, videos, and updates with Beyoncé’s song, “Love on Top,” as your soundtrack. You can get started with her track now at http://beyonce.kaptur.com

Kaptur Your Wedding With Beyoncé

The Grammy-Award winner first introduced “Love on Top” at the VMAs, where she announced her pregnancy and said “Tonight I want you to stand up on your feet, I want you to feel the love that’s growing inside of me.” The song is from her latest album, 4, and has a distinct 1980s-vibe. It has been compared to the likes of Whitney Houston and Stevie Wonder and truly gives Beyoncé legendary status!

When Vera Wang and WeddingWire found out about the campaign, they were so excited to partner with us. Beyoncé was actually spotted at the Vera Wang fashion show during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (Sept 12) and in her latest video, “Best Thing I Never Had,”  she is dressed in a sleek, elegant Vera Wang gown. The song is perfect for weddings.

Real Wedding Proposal, Gina and Kevin

Gina and Kevin tell Kaptur all about their wedding flight.

I went to a local bar with my Kickball team after a game one Thursday night in Ft. Myers (we were obviously celebrating a win). As luck would have it, I ran into Kevin at the bar; we grabbed a drink and exchanged numbers. About a week later on we had our first date.

Naturally I was very nervous and did all the talking. In fact, poor Kevin wouldn’t have gotten a word in even if he was a talker. Luckily he is not and he didn’t mind. The conversation revolved around what I love most, my friends and family. Kevin must have been intrigued by the Italian craziness because he made plans with this “Crazy Italian” for a second date.

Little did Kevin know that dating me meant helping me with all my DIY house projects and hiding from the family for at least a few weeks. Kevin was a trooper and helped with hanging fans, lights, cabinets in the garage, assembling furniture and even painting the outside of the house. Luckily for him the family helped with the really BIG stuff.

On Valentine’s Day, Kevin, a pilot, managed to sweep me off my feet. He kept the date a complete surprise. He told me to meet him at his house and wear something nice. I agreed, and showed up all dressed up not knowing where we may go. Kevin flew us to Miami for dinner on the waterfront. Yep, like a fairy tale!

The flying didn’t stop there. In August, after weeks of teasing me, Kevin proposed. He had a friend of his, who owns and operates helicopter sunset tours, fly us to a private island where he popped the question. I don’t think I ever actually said, “YES” but I know that I said, “OF COURSE!”

The past few months have been full of wedding preparations, from engagement parties to venue visits and menu tasting. I have even managed to become quite the DIY bride from websites to hair accessories, and yes, Kevin reluctantly helps me with every little project. I’ll be posting picture of my DIY projects, and other wedding day prep here on Kaptur. I would love everyone’s opinion.

Wedding Proposal Scavenger Hunt

Mark’s Proposal, by Laicie Olson

Mark and I met more than four years ago. We were working at a TGI Fridays, of all places, and I remember asking a co-worker to tell me who the “cute one” was. Turns out in the end he was a lot more than cute…he was everything I had ever needed.

Of course, when the day came for him to propose, I might have messed it up a little. I suppose he knew for sure at about 9:45 a.m. that I had no clue what he had in store. It was about that time that I was officially going to miss my Sunday yoga class, the first stop on a scavenger hunt that would lead me all the way from our home in Maryland to West Virginia, DC, and eventually to Oregon, where I grew up.

When I did finally drag my lazy bones out of bed that morning, I stumbled downstairs to discover a hydrangea, a camera, and a note detailing the terms of my hunt. I was to snap a picture at each destination, then text for my next clue. He wouldn’t talk to me along the way, but he would answer any question I had. “This one adventure may take all day,” he said in the note, “but the rest of our lives is the true adventure.” And he wasn’t kidding, the hunt really did last all day.

I visited the place we had our first kiss, our first home together – all of our favorite places. I told the through-hikers at the AT Visitor Center in Harper’s Ferry about my hunt and snapped their picture. I snapped my own picture. I cried at least ten times.

At the end of the day, Mark gave me my final clue. It was an address. Walking to the restaurant I knew he would be there. I was shaking, wondering how he would propose. Would it just be him? Would others be there too? Would he be down on one knee the second I saw him?

I arrived at the restaurant and was led to a table, but what I saw there wasn’t Mark – it was my three best girlfriends with a bottle of wine and another note! The note told me to pack my bags. His brother would be by our house early the next morning to take me to the airport; I was already checked in for my flight. The rest is kind of a blur. We had an amazing dinner (followed by a little trip next door for fro-yo) and then I headed home to pack my bags. Waiting at home was my iPod, which had recently gone missing, programmed with a personalized playlist of love songs for the long ride.

When I arrived in Portland, a town car took me to our favorite hotel. I opened the door to our room to hear The Ramones, “Baby, I Love You,” playing on a loop. On the dresser was my final clue.

The clue sent me to Powell’s, just around the corner, for a book on Frank Lloyd Wright and there he was. He led me to the waterfront, he got down on one knee, and he asked. It was like a dream.

The next day we celebrated in wine country with my family. I still have a hard time wrapping my head around just how amazing it all was, but really, I shouldn’t be surprised. This is the man I am going to marry. He’s been that same man every day of our lives. He’s amazing, and I can’t wait to marry him.

Real Wedding Kaptur – Jackie and Peter

Jackie and Peter met on Craigslist in November of 2005 and after exchanging a few emails they decided to meet. Jackie tells all in her real wedding feature story.

by Jackie Peterson

We couldn’t be more opposite: me, African American, an only child from northern New Jersey, and a creative spirit who still does math on her fingers, and Peter, Caucasian, the oldest of three from Maine, and a self-described computer geek. But we just gelled so perfectly from the beginning that I knew he was a keeper, and Peter popped the question in January 2010.

I delved into the world of wedding blogs shortly after getting engaged, and found so many amazing and creative ways to make our wedding personal (and cost-effective!) that I was inspired to handcraft many details for our wedding. From invitations, table numbers, seating cards and decorations, to my veil – I pretty much touched everything! The handmade aspects also gave our wedding a vintage feel, which I‘ve always loved. Our venue, Round Hill House, was perfect, too. It was like an extension of our own home, as we wanted a more informal wedding that felt intimate and fun.

We treated our guests to some of our favorite things: summery cocktails, our favorite being Pimm’s Cup, and a gelato bar after dinner. Oh, and a photobooth, which everyone loved! Some of my favorite details include our ceremony and cocktail hour music (classical guitar & mandolin), the surprise groom’s cake (Dungeons & Dragons-themed and exquisitely detailed), the spontaneous hora (Peter and I aren’t Jewish, but we obliged some close friends who are), and the heartfelt and hilarious toasts given by friends and family! Our photographers were so incredible and I am still in awe over just how well they captured the spirit of the day. It was incredibly emotional for so many people, especially me and my mom. But for every happy tear, there were many, many laughs, all documented beautifully! It was truly a special day filled with lots of love, and Peter and I are truly blessed to be surrounded by such phenomenal people! It was the best day ever!
