Kaptur’s Night Out for The Make-A-Wish Foundation

Last month, Kaptur was honored to be a sponsor of the 2nd Annual Toast to Wishes event, a fundraiser coordinated by the Metro New York and Western New York Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Most of us have heard of the amazing things that the Make-A-Wish Foundation does for children with life-threatening medical conditions. The Foundation is able to help create unforgettable experiences for these children with the support of a network of almost 25,000 volunteers who serve as wish granters, fundraisers, and special event assistants.

The Toast to Wishes fundraising event, held at the posh LAVO nightclub in NYC, raised over $175,000 in net proceeds to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Metro and Western New York. The money will be used to grant over 20 wishes for local children.  Some members of the Kaptur team attended the fabulous event and, of course, we Kaptur’d it! Check out the photos in our slideshow:

Sarah, our resident Community Manager, said of the evening, “It was a great event supporting a really amazing cause! It was particularly emotional to hear a real life experience from Paul Rosario, who told us how Make-A-Wish granted him and his family a trip to Mexico after suffering from Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma during middle school.”

The members of the Metro New York and Western New York Chapter were thrilled and grateful for the generosity of the donations. If you’re interested in making a contribution to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, please visit their website and find out how you can help.

Name Your Own Price for Wedding Services

In recent years, online shopping sites have become more and more sophisticated and easier to use – a blessing and a curse for those of us now addicted to online shopping! An element of what makes online shopping so appealing is that it allows us to search for exactly what we want without tons of legwork. Search parameters for airline tickets and apparel help consumers conduct their searches efficiently and effectively. Typically though, retailers and business do not negotiate on their advertised prices; the consumer has to agree to the set price.

One website that makes a rare offer to its visitors is www.wedwu.com. WedWu has taken a cue from the travel discount site Priceline and created a first of its kind site that allows brides to name their own price for wedding services. The company screens all potential vendors and matches vendors with brides based on whether a vendor will be able to provide wedding services at the desired price point. WedWu brings together the convenience of the web and the pricing engine of “Priceline” for weddings.

Through their website, WedWu manages the entire process from bid to delivery on the day of the wedding, with periodic notifications throughout. This system eliminates much of the overhead and hassle that booking services for a wedding can entail. And since WedWu’s selection of vendors is comprised of the same industry professionals you would find on any website, a bride can be assured that she will receive professional quality products and services, while paying a price she is comfortable with. WedWu currently offers its handy name-your-own-price system for photographers, videographers and DJ services, and it intends to expand their offerings as demand grows.
