The Week at Kaptur

I’m excited this week! If you haven’t checked it out yet, we have a brand new way for you to view all of your photos. You can now filter the photos in a Kaptur and easily see photos organized by photos of just you, photos of tagged friends or sorted by the friend who uploaded the photos.

This is the new view once you create a Kaptur:

Press

Kaptur has been getting a lot of buzz lately. PCWorld, Daily Tekk, and Utterly Engaged wrote some great things about us! You can read all of the articles in our press section.

Interview

Last but not least, here is an interview with DQ, the first engineering hire at Kaptur (after Vik, the CTO). DQ likes to Kaptur his road trips – here’s one to Philly.

When you’re not being a computer programming wizard, what do you do?
Spend time outdoors with friends and family, exploring new places and making stops to eat out on the road.

If you could be a superhero, what power would you possess? Why?
The ability to teleport, so I can get to anywhere in the world instantly.

If you could only take 3 things to a desert island what would they be?
my girlfriend, an infinite supply of food and water, and my solar-powered laptop loaded with drama series.

What’s your favorite thing about Kaptur?
The ability to easily see and download all photos to remember an event without having to take any myself!

Kaptur is one of the 25 Facebook Apps for Savvy Users

Over 9 million apps and websites have integrated with Facebook, and PCWorld recently named Kaptur as one of the 25 best, alongside the likes of Pinterest, Aviary, Viddy, Socialcam, StumbleUpon, Soundrop, The Washington Post Social Reader, Draw Something, Marvel (Avengers Alliance) and more.

PCWorld says:

“If you’ve taken a group trip or attended an event with others and later wanted to aggregate all of the photos taken by your friends, Kaptur is worth checking out.”

The Week at Kaptur

We’re starting a new tradition here at Kaptur – a weekly post highlighting new features and other happenings.

New on Kaptur:

- Check out the fancy “Learn More” video on the homepage

We had four externs, Anna, Karen, Jeremy and Justin, from Columbia University join Kaptur for a week. As part of their externship they created an awesome video for our homepage.

- Share & organize your photos more easily on Facebook

We recently integrated facebook open graph so you can create, view and share your Kapturs more socially. Here is a snapshot of how it will look on your facebook timeline:

Other Kaptur News:

- The launch of the Kaptur Engineering blog

We are very proud of the talented tech team we have here, and we thought we’d share some of our knowledge and help other people gain insight into the challenges we face! Vik, our CTO, has written the first post - Integrating Amazon’s SES Email Service into a CentOS 5 Web Server. Read on for a little bit more about Vik…

What else do you do outside Kaptur and engineering?

Writing and performing music is a big passion of mine. I play and sing in a chamber pop band called Story & Clark and we perform regularly. We played Denver’s Walnut Room and Meadowlark in March and plan to be part of the Denver Post’s Underground Music Showcase again this year.

How did you get into engineering?

My dad is a civil engineer and we often did do-it-yourself projects around the house when I was growing up.  As for software development for the web, I loved the idea of being able to think up a concept or system and then bring it to life.  Elegant engineering is very much a creative process and I really like it.

What’s that one burning question that keeps you up at night?

Definitely “what can we do better?”  There are lots of ways to define success at an endeavor.  For me personally, I want Kaptur to generate “aha!” moments for lots of people.  We offer a unique service — the simpler, quicker and easier to use it gets, the better I’ll sleep. :)

- Attended the 3rd Annual NYC Startup Job Fair and NY Tech Day

We met some bright sparks at these two events, and mixed with other startups.  We enjoyed chatting with the talented minds from Spotify, tumblr, Cheek’d, Hotlist, Little Borrowed Dress, QWips, yodle, Thrillist, Tough Mudder and more.
